Book of Stacks, Stacks of Books

Jared Bark, an American artist, started placing stacks of books in the fields and woods on his farm in 2012. He had a vision of a column of books standing at the edge of a field, surrounded by trees, which inspired this project.

After creating the outdoor stacks, Jared Bark moved his project indoors to his studio. There, he made various types of stacks: colourful, burned, and effaced.

Recently, Jared Bark has been building vertical stacks of books. These stacks are run through a sawmill and cut on all four sides into long, rectangular blocks of wood. The slender verticality of the sculptures references both the trees that provide paper and the ancient columns Bark saw in Pompeii. The book, Book of Stacks, Stacks of Books, collects a wide selection of the stacks Bark has made over the past decade.

The book is beautifully set in Beirut Display.
