Luzi Type Foundry

The new Licence Agreement

After redesigning my website, I felt the need to reconsider licensing at Luzi Type as well. The licensing process was generating too many questions and office work. My goal is to make licensing as simple as a pizza: dough, tomatoes, and cheese.

The typical approach to font licensing involves providing different categories for various usage areas. That is reasonable; the more a typeface is used, the more value it generates, and the higher its usage cost should be.

Some foundries have very detailed categorizations. They offer logotype licenses, broadcast licenses, or packaging licenses, and my graphic design friends tell me they are sometimes confused.

My old licensing categories were somewhat in between, not too narrow, but also not very broad. This will change with this new version of my licenses.

I want to simplify my licenses to their essence; each category should have a single metric for calculating the cost and no restrictions within a license category. This way, licenses are easier to understand. Thanks to the metric, the licensing cost is calculated based on how extensively a typeface is used.

Now I have only three license categories: Desktop, Web and App, and nothing more, no ifs or buts.

With a Desktop License, you purchase the number of computers needed, and you can use the typeface on those computers for yourself or your clients. From logotypes to outdoor ads, from TV advertisements to t‑shirts.

Thanks to your Web License, you can use the web fonts in all of your web projects. You can use your Web License on all your websites, all your domains, all your email newsletters, and all your HTML5 banners. The cost is calculated based on the total monthly page views.

Last but not least, the App License. If you want to create an app, you can purchase an app license. You can distribute this app on every platform, without download limits or user counts. If you wish to publish a functionally different app, simply buy an additional app license.

You can test all my fonts and web fonts for free before licensing. We have not increased the cost of any licenses.

I have added an unlimited option to the shop. Customers can now purchase unlimited computers, unlimited page views, or unlimited apps. This means that customers never have to upgrade their license when their usage increases. This option is particularly useful for corporate needs.

Any previously made license agreement remains valid. No additional measures are required from anyone who purchased a license from us before this change. I hope these adjustments will make licensing simpler for everybody.
