Recife

Recife is the text typeface designed for today’s editorial needs. It stands in the tradition of antique fonts in the Dutch manner; such as Plantin and Times. Due to the innovative calligraphy achieves Recife an own crisp identity. Especially the lowercase a, f and s reflects this approach; with their open counter-spaces.

Recife comes in two styles. The Text is optimised for excellent legibility and sharpness at smaller sizes. It’s Display sibling focuses on character and plays more with contrasts. Recife resumes classic resources into a contemporary aesthetic. Find more information about the design process of Recife at our blog post.

Recife is also available as a Variable Font with two axes, Weight (Light → Black) and Optical Size (Text → Display). By purchasing a family you receive two Variable Fonts; an upright and an italic.

That’s an intriguing Story!

The International Typographic Style has had a profound influence on graphic design as a part of the modernist movement, affecting many design-related fields; including architecture and art. It emphasises cleanness, readability, and objectivity. Hallmarks of the style are asymmetric layouts, use of a grid, sans-serif typefaces and flush left, ragged right text. The style is also associated with a preference for photography in place of illustrations or drawings. Many of the early International Typographic Style works featured typography as a primary design element besides its use in text, and it is for this that the style is named. The style emerged from a desire to represent information objectively, free from the influence of associated meaning. The International Typographic Style evolved as a modernist graphic movement that sought to convey messages clearly and in a universal manner.
