A Licence gives you a specific right to use a typeface. It defines how and on which medium a font can be used.

Fonts are software, everybody who uses them needs to buy a Licence for it.

The Licence Holder (or licensee) is someone who has been granted a licence by Luzi Type.
It can be one person, a specific company or a single organisation.
The Licence Holder, together with Luzi Type, form a contractual relationship via the Licence Agreements.
The Licence Holder always remains the same and cannot be changed.
The Licence Holder can not share the same licence with another party (like their clients).

This depends on how you like to use the font.
There are three Licence types in the shop.
Desktop‑Licence
A Desktop Licence allows you to use our fonts on a specific number of your computers.
You can create images, PDFs and videos. You can use these creations everywhere in print, online or tv with no limitations.
Web‑Licence
A Web Licence allows you to use our fonts on your website.
You can use the fonts on any number of your domains up to a specific number of overall monthly page views.
App‑Licence
An App Licence allows you to embed our fonts into one app.
You can publish this app across multiple operating systems as long as the application is functionally equivalent.

When you buy a Font, you are purchasing a particular right to use a typeface.
The End User Licence Agreement (EULA) defines how.
The EULA is a legally binding contract between you and Luzi Type.

Licences are perpetual and no subscription.
This means you need to pay the licence fee once without ever need to renew.

No, you cannot share your Licence with clients or others.
You can produce designs with the desktop font for others; for example, design business cards for a client.
However, you can not share the font-file with a client or others.

We can offer two solutions for this.
The simplest solution is:
– you select licences in our
→ shop
– go to the checkout page
– at the checkout page click the button
Save Cart as Link
– your selection (the cart) will be saved as an URL to your clipboard
– you can share this URL with your client
– by using this URL your client will be redirected to the checkout page
– your selected licences (the cart) will be added automatically
– your client can now just fill in their details and make the purchase
It is also possible to purchase directly for your client.
You need to follow these instructions before buying:
– transfer the
→ licence agreement to your client
– your client needs to accept the
→ licence agreement
– select at the checkout page the option, This Licence is for: "my Client"
– put the name of your client in the Licence-Holder-field
These steps are important because your client will be the Licence Holder.
To be a Licence Holder, your client has to agree to this contract.
Please note these licences can only use your client.
You cannot install or use the font on your computers or in your office.
Luzi Type does not provide any cross-organisation Licences.

No, resales are not permitted to anybody, including your clients.
Meaning you can charge your client for your design work, but not for the font itself.

A Licence is tied to an one single organisation or person (the Licence-Holder).
It does not matter where the computers are located, as long there owned by your organisation.

Yes, with a Desktop Licence you can design Logos.
The Logotype can be used and distributed as Outline-Paths (vectors) or as Pixel Images.

Mac OSX:
To install a font on OSX, you can use the app Font Book.
This Application is installed on Apple computers by default.
Launch Font Book from your Applications folder.
Double click your downloaded zip file (for unzipping the folder).
Drag your downloaded font-files (.OTF) on the icon of Font Book.
A new window will appear, click the button install, volá.
Windows:
To activate a font on Windows, go to the following folder on your computer: Local Disk (C:) / Windows / Fonts.
Right-click the downloaded .zip file and select (Extract All), so you unzip the folder.
Now drag the font files (.OTF) into the Fonts folder, that’s it.
Please restart your computer, if fonts not show up in menus of applications.

Some of our fonts have different versions of letters (e.g the g-like-lowercase-y or an uppercase-Z with stroke).
You can use these Alternate Glyphs via the OpenType Feature Stylistic Set.
In Adobe InDesign you can find the Stylistic Sets Options as following:

In Adobe Illustrator you can find the Stylistic Sets Options as following:

Yes, our fonts support Microsoft Office, including the use of italic- and bold-button (style linking).
Please note that Word or PowerPoint on Windows will not display italic in the drop-down font menu.
This is normal behaviour since styles are linked.
You can access italics via italic-button.
In Microsoft Office on Windows Kerning is turned off by default, we recommend switching Kerning on manually.
You can turn this on via the Font Panel in the Advanced section.

The short answer is; you can, but I would not recommend it.
You can embed fonts in MS Office documents (e.g. PowerPoint).
You can use this document on your computers, as long as you have a Desktop Licence for this computer.
You cannot share this document with other parties. This is because fonts are licenced to a single organisation (Licence Holder).
Sharing fonts with other parties is not possible.
I do not recommend you embed fonts in to your MS Office documents (e.g. Word).
Your document file size will increase with every document, which will add up over time.
Further is the embedding of fonts buggy and does not work in all versions of MS Office.
Please do it the conventional way; get a Desktop Licence, install the font on your computers and use it then in programs like Word.

No, this will not affect you.
Luzi Type Desktop Fonts are delivered in OpenType format (.OTF) from the start.
Desktop Variable Fonts are delivered in TrueType format (.TTF).
Both of these formats are the industry standard and will work likely for decades to come.
You will not have any compatibility problems with our typefaces.

That means you can use the Licence up to three computers.

No, there are no recurring fees or subscription. All Licences are valid without temporal limitation.

Yes, we use the most up-to-date technology for our webshop.
The complete website is SSL TLS 1.2 encrypted and all payments are processed only and directly on the secure servers of

We not store any credit card information at any moment.

Yes, the warranty period is 60 days after the receiving of the goods. During that period we try everything possible to solve problems.

A Variable Font can display multiple weights in one Font.
All our font families (except for Assembly) include a Variable font version.

All single font weights come with no Variable Font Version.

Variable Fonts are split in two separate font-files: Upright and Italic.
This is due to achieve the best interpolation result.

It is an extension of the OpenType Format (TrueType flavour, TTF) so you can install it like every typeface at your computer.

At the moment, Variable Fonts are supported by Adobe InDesign 2020, Illustrator CC 2019 and Photoshop CC 2019.
Every font comes with a Standard Version in single font weights (as Desktop-, Web- or App-Font).
This ensures the compatibility in all possible uses.
Web browsers are good at displaying variable fonts; within Design Applications, there can be some bugs and rendering issues.
However, for example Adobe is keen to update their software.

We are keen to see our Variable Font running smoothly in all major design applications, especially in Adobe Applications.

Now you like to have this setting as a single font file.
Unfortunately, we can not export single font weights since this would be too time consuming, sorry.

Customising:
You can convert fonts into paths or pixels and create outline artworks, e.g. in Adobe Illustrator.
Modify and or converting the font-file itself (e.g. the OTF) in any way is not allowed.

We support student projects with a discount of 50%. This education licence can only be used for educational purposes. With an education licence, there is no commercial use allowed.
If you want to use the fonts outside of the education context, you can upgrade to a standard license at any time, (for the additional cost). Like every of our licences, you can not share it with others.
